The APRC’s mission is to save lives in Jesus’ name by sharing positive solutions to issues surrounding unplanned pregnancy.
We are a professionally led and volunteer-staffed organization that is saving souls for Jesus Christ while providing positive solutions for women facing unexpected pregnancies.
We meet these often frightened and lost women at the point of their immediate need, and then walk alongside them on their journey, providing for their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
We handled approximately 1,700 visits from 700 unique clients in 2011, most of them minority and/or at-risk women. We charge them nothing. We are funded solely by local churches and private individuals.
Almost three-quarters of our clients are minorities and live in east and central Austin or in university neighborhoods.
We offer pregnancy tests; material assistance such as diapers, wipes and formula; and a boutique with baby and maternity clothes.
Our trained volunteers provide abdominal ultrasounds by appointment and give printouts of the images to clients. Referrals are given for prenatal care through our partnership with St. David’s Medical Center.
We conduct or make referrals for classes on parenting, sexuality and abstinence, life skills, ESL and other relevant topics. (When a need for professional counseling or medical service is indicated, we refer clients to .
Our staff consists of a full-time executive director, a part-time volunteer coordinator and a part-time administrative assistant. We have approximately 70 volunteers, and we conduct regular, monthly training classes for them.
APRC is governed by a 15-member board of directors that includes doctors, lawyers and pastors. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation.
The Austin Pregnancy Resource Center was there for me when I felt completely alone. I needed to place my baby in adoptive care, and I didn’t know where to turn. They helped me come up with an adoption plan and introduced me to a very good adoption agency. APRC took me to all of my doctor visits during the last two months of my pregnancy and met me at the hospital when my son was born (at 3 a.m.). They were there for me through the whole process. They showed complete respoect for me and my decision and never once judged me. They prayed for me when I needed spiritual healing and guidance and gave me the space I needed to make my own decision. Most of all, they listened to me. I recommend APRC to anyone who is experiencing an unexpected pregnancy.—35-year-old APRC female client.
