We join with people of faith to provide hope & medical care to the working uninsured by meeting their physical emotional and spiritual needs
Faith Family Medical Clinic offers hope and medical care to the working uninsured in Middle Tennessee by treating them physically, emotionally and spriritually. The Journey to Health Program is our wellness inititive. This program consists of a “prescription from a Medical Provider” followed by a one on one assessment with our Journey to Health Director. Then the patients moves into a group and attends 6 weeks of classes on nutrition and healthy behaviors including a field trip to a grocery store. This is followed by 4 weeks of fitness instruction at the Baptist Hospital Wellness Center. The program also offers tools for success: pedometer, key chain alarm, water bottle, gym bag. In 2011, 687 patients benefited from this program. By focusing on prevention, education and intervention, we are helping our patients replace unhealthy patterns of behaviour with healthy ones. Most importantly, this program provides hope and demonstrates to the patients that they are not alone. It is truly transformational and life-giving.
From a patient,
I am a resident of Magdalene (a residential program for women who have survived lives of prostitution, trafficking, addiction and life on the streets.) Two years ago I was hopeless, desparate, and lost. I physically felt as if I were 100 years old. I could barely make my bed without breaking a sweat. I had a moment of clarity and determined taht if I did not turn my life around, I would be dead within the year. That is when I found Magdalene. They were helping me with the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my program, but other than a physical every couple of months, there was no one pushing me to become physically fit. At least not until the Faith Family Journey to Health Program came along. Marcie (a Faith Family volunteer)came to Magdalene one morning and said we was going to start a walking group. I showed up in a long flowing skirt and flip-flops. I thought we was going to walk around the block smoking cigaretts and talking. Those thoughts could not have been further from the truth. I cannot even begin to thank Faith Family and Marcie enough. Since then, I have completed 3 5-Ks, I work out twice a week and she has attended a class to teach me to stop smoking. Today I have the energy of a teenager and I owe it all to this program and to Marcie! If she had not been there to push me, I fear, my bones and body would still be feeling like a person twice my age. She is an asset to my recovery, not only has God placed the “dragon slayer” (Marcie) on my pathway to healing and health - I am also proud, honored and blessed to call you my friend. Love you always, JC
